An elegant Georgian landmark in Bloomsbury
The Bloomsbury Hotel was unveiled today following
a multi-million pound investment from The Doyle Collection. The
imposing neo-Georgian listed building was originally designed as
the headquarters for the YWCA by one of the country’s greatest
architects, Sir Edwin Lutyens. Under the skilled direction of The
Doyle Collection, the hotel has emerged as a beacon of cool and
calm in the heart of London, steps away from The British Museum and
theatre-land with Covent Garden, Oxford Circus and Clerkenwell
nearby.
Grand stone steps and original iron railings lead you into the
large open space of the foyer. The original wooden framed sash
windows have been retained giving a feeling of colonial luxury, yet
the furniture layout is sparse and symmetrical, in keeping with the
Lutyens design ethos. The furniture, a combination of the
traditional and modern, is supplied by George Smith, B&B
Italia, Porta Romana and PTT. Bespoke handmade rugs from the Rug
Company soften the original herringbone timber floor, while three
fanciful and bejewelled chandeliers add sparkle and glamour to the
space.
