24 Hours in Marylebone

Chiltern Street

The Marylebone

Starting your Journey

Set yourself up for the day with a hearty breakfast – al fresco if the weather’s kind – at the hotel’s 108 on the Lane. Then head out for some retail therapy in nearby Chiltern Street, home to an array of quirky independent boutiques, particularly from a fashion perspective – check out Trunk, Sunspel, Pauline Burrows and Monki Mou. A stroll up Marylebone High Street will take you back to Marylebone Lane.

Midday Meandering

Make your way to the wonderfully British sandwich bar – and local institution – Paul Rothe & Son for a light lunch (try one of the soups; there’ll be plenty of other options to follow later). Then spend the afternoon exploring the glorious Wallace Collection, home to a wealth of European art from the 17th to 19th centuries.

If, after this, you’re looking for a sweet treat (with a side of fashion), head to Cabbages and Frocks – a small high-end market set in the grounds of St Marylebone Parish Church. The church was where poets Elizabeth Barrett and Robert Browning secretly married and also where one of Charles Dickens’ children was baptised (he wrote six of his novels from a family home nearby).

Sunset Strolling

Freshen up for dinner and take a stroll to Trishna, three minutes from the hotel, for wonderful modern Indian cuisine. Afterwards, retire for a nightcap in a cosy corner of The Marylebone’s newest opening, The Cocktail Bar – already a hot spot with locals.
