Pack your hamper, chill the champagne and get your picnic rug in order, we’ve put together our favourite spots for a picnic across the capital.

The Bloomsbury

Just a stone’s throw from The Bloomsbury are a couple of hidden gems just crying out for a blanket, hamper and some homemade sandwiches. Head over to Russell Square, just a short walk from The Bloomsbury, for one of the most tranquil spots for a picnic in central London. The square is also the perfect spot from which to launch an excursion to the 18th century British Museum.

Sitting at the heart of London’s legal heartland, Lincoln’s Inn Fields holds the title of London’s largest public square, and is the perfect spot for a picnic. You could even enjoy a game of tennis or netball to burn off the treats you’ve enjoyed.

A little further south lies Inner Temple Gardens. Once again at the centre of legal London, sandwiched between Fleet Street and the Embankment, Inner Temple Gardens' stunning architecture provides the perfect place for a picnic. The imposing Georgian buildings in this semi-secret part of London house barristers' chambers and its cobbled streets are often used to play the part of 18th century London in TV dramas like Downton Abbey.

The Marylebone

The panoramic views provided by Primrose Hill are perfect for a picturesque picnic. Just a short walk from The Marylebone, bring your own picnic or try out some of the Artisanal Takeaway options on Regent’s Park Road. The famous Primrose Bakery originated just down the road on Gloucester Avenue, the perfect place to pick up handmade cupcakes, layer cakes, loaves, biscuits and slices for your picnic on Primrose Hill.

Head south from The Marylebone through neighbouring Mayfair and you’ll reach Green Park. Bordering The Queen’s London residence; Buckingham Palace, the park even has deck chairs available to rent between March and October. For a special treat, why not visit the wold famous Fortnum & Mason food court to put together your own summer feast.

The Kensington

Pack some sushi and head over to Holland Park’s Kyoto Garden to enjoy a Japanese themed picnic in the park’s thoroughly zen surroundings. Designed and built in 1992 to celebrate the Japan Festival, the park was a co-operative project between the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and the Kyoto Chamber of Commerce.

The great expanse of Hyde Park has hundreds of spots for a lazy afternoon in the sun. Enjoy the regal surrounds of the Italianate Fountains to the north of the park near Lancaster Gate, or lounge by the serpentine and watch the pedalos and rowing boats drift past. Visit the westerly portion of the park to see the newly laid out Princess Diana Memorial Garden at Kensington Palace.
