Things for families to do in Dublin

Keep the kids happy in the city

It’s not tricky to keep the kids occupied in Dublin. It has the bustling charm of a big city with the easy-to-navigate feeling of a small one, with plenty of places children love to see. With an extra long Easter break coming up, we’ve rounded up a list of places that the kids will love in Dublin.

Dublin Zoo

You can’t beat a day at the zoo, and Dublin’s is one of the finest. Just a short hop from The Croke Park, the 28-hectare park is home to around 400 animals. There’s a strong conservation message, and you can learn all about the animals and their native habitats. You never know, your visit might also coincide with some new additions… who can forget last year’s brand new giraffe, or the three baby elephants the year before?

Natural History Museum

From one zoo to another… the Natural History Museum has long been known as the “Dead Zoo”, due to its rather still inhabitants. Open since 1857, the Natural History Museum has always been a favourite among children, who love the sight of giant deer and whale skeletons.

Croke Park

Are your kids wild for the GAA? A trip to the mecca of Croke Park will surely go down a treat. You can visit the GAA Museum, or even take a VIP all access tour of the stadium. You’ll take a seat in the VIP area, see the dressing rooms and enjoy views from the top tier of the stadium. Additional tours are laid on during school holidays but you’ll have to book in advance.

Phoenix Park

What kid doesn’t love a trip to the park? Well, Phoenix Park is one of the best in the country. Spot some of the grazing fallow deer, take a picnic and lay out on the grass or visit the playground at the entrance. Older children will love renting bikes to cycle around the park, too.
