The weather in the UK can be temperamental, even during the summer months, but don’t despair – head to The Bloomsbury’s floral-filled Dalloway Terrace for a taste of Sri Lanka in the heart of London’s West End. The restaurant walls are lined with palms and vibrant orchids, and if the temperature rises, the roof of the terrace can retract to let the sun shine in. Dessert wise, embrace all things tropical. The scrumptious mango and lychee cream, laced with coriander, sweet pepper and lychee sorbet, is a refreshing and fruity take on the classic ice cream dish.
If you’re looking for something decadent and delicious to finish your meal, 108 Brasserie’s ice cream selection is the one for you. Try one of it’s fruity sorbets (strawberry, citrus, raspberry) or, if you fancy something richer, indulge in a scoop or two of the brilliant fresh ice cream. Flavours include bitter chocolate, mascarpone & raspberry ripple and lemon yoghurt – we recommend getting a few for the table so you can try them all. However, the piece de resistance of the ice cream menu has to be the legendary Knickerbocker Glory: an indulgent pick with all the trimmings, perfect for dessert lovers.
Described by TimeOut as the ‘Willy Wonkas of the ice cream world’, Chin Chin is experimental, elaborate and 100% devoted to creating only truly brilliant desserts. It’s technique is unique: hand churning liquid nitrogen to make the most delicious ice cream in weird and wonderful flavours. The specials change weekly (a recent menu featured grilled sweetcorn…), and the toppings and sauces are endless: hazelnut sand, truffle crumble, cinnamon toast, to name just a few. Head to Soho when the weather is hot and takeaway a treat – it’s the perfect way to cool down and settle that sweet tooth.
Using ingredients from Italy, Gelatorino offers authentic Italian gelato created on the premises each day; a treat for both the eyes and taste buds. The selection of flavours available is second to none: from classics like rum and raisin to the tangy pumpkin pie, Gelatorino knows what works when it comes to the perfect ice cream. If you’re popping in on the evening (the store closes at 10pm), don’t miss one of it’s gelato cocktails for a scrumptious take on a classic.
It’s not traditional, but it is seriously cool.
