Cork is not a city that’s short on musical happenings – you can hear traditional music tinkering out of pubs on any evening, and there are often buskers livening up the streets. And that doesn’t include the big names that come to the city for sell out concerts.

But there are also a multitude of events for the classical music fans. At Triskel Arts Centre, there are a number of classical series that run throughout the year. Here are some concerts coming up on the calendar which we think are well worth a trip.

The Red Abbey String Quartet

A quartet of extraordinarily talented musicians on the violin, viola and cello will be playing Haydn’s Quartet in D, Op.42 and Mendelssohn’s Quartet in F minor Op.80.
When: Saturday October 7^th, 1pm (€10)

The Vanbrugh with Michael McHale

With Michael McHale on piano, Keith Pascoe on violin, Simon Aspell on viola and Christopher Marwood on cello, this is set to be a brilliant lunchtime performance.
When: Saturday November 4^th, 1pm (€10)

Spotlight Chamber Music Series

A season of events running through to January, with must-see performances the October event, featuring Eoin Ducrot and Brendan Garde (Violin), Tríona Milne (Viola), Aoife Burke (Cello) and Chiara Opalio (Piano).
When: Saturday 21^st October, €10

The Complete Beethoven Cycle

Performed by the RTE Contempo Quartet, this incredible event celebrated some of the most extraordinary music ever composed. “Written over a span of thirty years in roughly three blocks, Beethoven took the form, perfected by “Papa Haydn” and developed further by Mozart , completely revising and transforming it.”
When: Thursday 12^th October (and once a month following), 6.30pm, €12

There is an Island

With a fresh and interesting take, There is an Island take their influence from a wide array of performers, from Nick Cave to Mozart. “Expect hushed invocations, oceanic lullabies and haunting melodies with a sound that is at once transparent and full of warmth.”
When: Saturday 14^th October, 8pm, €15
