February 29th is best known for being the date that occurs every 4 years and turns traditions upside down. It’s a day where women are encouraged to make the marriage proposals and causes plenty of speculation every time it lands on our calendars. For another #sliceofthecity, we bring you the best and most memorable places in London to get down on one knee.

For perfect panoramas of London

Madison
Stepping onto the rooftop at Madison is like stepping into another world. Perched high above the crowds of St. Pauls, this rooftop terrace offers supreme views over the London skyline. In the summer it reflects a Mediterranean sun-trap and in the winter it turns into a cosy haven, covered in sparkling lights and fur blankets. Madison also serves a great selection of cocktails and champagne, perfect for when you’re celebrating that proposal.

To feel a million miles from London

Kyoto Japanese Garden - Holland Park
Tucked away in an unsuspecting corner of Holland Park in West London is the peaceful Kyoto Garden. The garden was opened in 1991 and is carefully designed to reflect the key features of a traditional, Japanese Garden. Tiered waterfalls, stone lanterns and ponds filled with coy carp make this an exotic, secluded spot for a proposal - although you may have to share your moment with one of the roaming peacocks.

To propose on top of the world…

The View from The Shard
Imagine proposing to your loved at the top of the tallest building in the UK (and the European Union for that matter) High above the bustling city, The Shard’s 360 degree, 40-mile panoramic views span across the whole of London. Pop the question on The View from The Shard viewing platform or at one of the many restaurants and bars within.

For an intergalactic proposal

The Royal Observatory, Greenwich
Home to London’s only planetarium, The Royal Observatory is a fascinating location where you can take an awe-inspiring journey into space. Unravel the mysteries of the cosmos and see stunning images of space from around the world. For a no expenses spared proposal, The Royal Observatory has many locations that you can privately hire, alternatively stroll along to Greenwich Park where from the top of Greenwich hill, you can see one of the best views of the city.

For an iconic bridge proposal

London Bridge
Although London Bridge is not the most visually beautiful bridge in the city, it’s the view that makes it so special. Head here at night to gaze upon Tower Bridge, illuminated in the night sky with the hundreds of lights that decorate it. A capital city proposal doesn’t get much better than this.
