The Perfect Sunday in Dublin

The weekend never looked so good...

The perfect Sunday in Dublin is easy with brunch in Balfes, a walk in the park and a Sunday roast in Wilde.

Sunday has always been a bit of a neglected day, when it comes to weekend getaways. It’s the day where, typically, you check out and make your way home. But Sundays can be the absolute best day for a mini-break. The streets of a city are a little quieter, there’s more of a laidback vibe to the cafés and restaurants, and hotel room prices are usually a little lower.

The Westbury has a fantastic special package for a Sunday stay at the moment, with rates from €180 per room. We’ve put together some reasons why Sundays and Dublin go hand in hand, with some things to do that make up the perfect day…

Sunday Brunch

Brunch is one of those dining trends that has gone from strength to strength in Dublin, with city dwellers flocking to their favourite spots for a weekend catch up. Balfes is one of the most popular spots in the city, and serves up all the usual treats like delicious pastries as well as some super healthy options. If you’re feeling virtuous, try the BodyByrne Eggs Florentine on wholemeal bread with yoghurt dressing, or the BodyByrne oat pancakes, which are cooked in coconut oil and served with your choice of berries and agave nectar, scrambled eggs and avocado or organic almond butter and banana.

The best shops in Dublin are steps from The Westbury, with Brown Thomas and the Powerscourt Centre just around the corner.

Browsing the Shops

The city’s shops can settle down a little on Sundays, so it’s the perfect day to have a nose. Try Brown Thomas, for all your designer brands and an excellent beauty hall, or the high street shops on Grafton Street. Just around the corner is the Powerscourt Centre, where you’ll find some of Dublin’s best boutiques, all within a beautiful Georgian building. There are also some fantastic independent shops around Drury Street and William Street South, just steps from The Westbury.

A Walk in the Green

Sundays are just made for an amble through a park, and Stephen’s Green is the perfect space for an afternoon wander. Take your time exploring all that the park has to offer, relaxing on the benches if the sun is shining, or sheltering in one of the Victorian pagodas if there’s a shower. If you fancy something different, why not explore the Iveagh Gardens, just around the corner? Though they’re hardly unknown, they’re often called the Secret Gardens, due to the fewer crowds that walk there. You’ll find beautiful flowerbeds, statues and even a waterfall.

You'll find the best Martini in Dublin shaken up from the art deco martini trolley in the Sidecar bar in The Westbury

The Ultimate Roast

Wilde has recently undergone a dramatic transformation, and the 1930s art deco space has won acclaim from many new fans. The food is impeccable, and on Sunday you can find the special of roast sirloin of beef on the menu, served with all the trimmings. Afterwards, pop into the Sidecar bar for a martini shaken up by your tableside, and you’ll wrap up the perfect Sunday in style.
