Weekend Breaks in Cork

Weekend Curators: Louise O’Neill’s West Cork

Louise O’Neill is a multi-award-winning author, columnist and most importantly, native of Clonakilty.

Having grown up in West Cork and subsequently going to Dublin for university, I actually spent very little time in Cork city when I was younger. As an adult, I have tried to rectify that, making the most of the excellent food, arts scene, and shopping the city has to offer.

Now, whenever friends are coming to the Real Capital (all Cork people must refer to it as such, it’s the law), I always recommend they split their time between here and the countryside, to really soak up everything this county does so well.

When curating my ideal weekend with The River Lee, i wanted to ensure that we showcased both the best of the city and county, but leave some room for exploration too. So, you can stay for 2 nights and enjoy the city sights with a delicious dinner in The River Lee, and then follow along with my 48 Hours in Cork guide. Or stay for a night and dabble in some of my suggestions – the choice is yours!
