Best places for live music in Washington DC
Whether it’s a tiny dive bar with a guitarist in the corner, or a huge band headlining a stadium, you’ll leave town with memories that will last a lifetime. Washington DC is a fantastic city for live music, and we’ve rounded up the venues and gigs you don’t want to miss this summer.

Ed Sheeran at the Verizon Center
Summer will be drawing to a close as Ed Sheeran plays to the huge crowds at the Verizon Center in September (23rd/24th). This arena is home to some great gigs – Madonna is playing on September 12th, as well as Imagine Dragons on July 6th, and Shania Twain on July 21st. It’s not just music, either – comedian Kevin Hart will be performing on both 6th and 7th August.
Just around the corner from The Dupont Circle Hotel, Club 930 hosts local musicians as well as big names – the New Pornographers and Laura Marling are both playing this summer. Neon Trees are hitting the stage on July 20th, and be sure to catch one of their themed dance parties – on 18th July, there’s a No Scrubs: 90's Dance Party with DJs Will Eastman and Brian Billion.

It might be a famed jazz spot, but Black Cat is also home to some excellent comedy. Janeane Garofalo is playing on 10th July, as well as one of Saturday Night Live’s newest recruits, Sasheer Zamata, on 31st July. There are a few different concert rooms within the venue, with gigs held almost every night.
If you like Electronica and dance music, then you’ll love Flash. On Fridays and Saturdays, you’ll find top class DJs from Washington and all around the world. You can dance the night away to a whole variety of music styles, from techno to house. On other nights of the week, you’ll find gigs from the whole spectrum, with a good representation of world music.
Dupont LIVE at Bar Dupont
There’s nothing better than listening to live music outdoors on a balmy evening. Every Tuesday throughout the summer, Bar Dupont will be hosting local musicians on their patio bar. So you can relax with a chic cocktail (we recommend the BBB&T) while you’re serenaded by the best of the local talent.
