Get cosy with the new winter menu from Balfes

For a seasonal bite in the city

The new winter menu from Balfes brasserie in Dublin

It seemed to happen practically overnight, but winter is suddenly upon us. The Christmas lights are strewn between buildings, fires are being lit and everyone is pulling out their softest winter scarves and coats.

Now is the time for getting as snug as possible and, of course, this is the season that calls for the most comforting of food.

Balfes has just launched its new winter menu, and it’s filled with options that will warm the cockles, whether you’re popping in for a lunch in-between Christmas shopping or meeting friends for dinner. So, what are some of the new additions? Here are just a few…

Pork Belly

Part of the excellent lunch specials (which come with a complimentary fruit fool dessert pot) this festive dish is the perfect combination of winter flavours. Crispy pork belly is served with creamy mash, spiced date sauce and roasted shallots (available on Mondays).

Balfes Shepherd’s Pie

Winter menu from Balfes brasserie in Dublin

Is there any dish that suits winter better than Shepherd’s Pie? It’s the dream comfort food, and the Balfes incarnation uses a parsley mash and roasted root vegetables. Heaven in a bowl.

Scallops

Pan-fried to perfection, the fresh scallops are served with cauliflower puree and zingy samphire, along with a fermented carrot dressing. The ideal combination of decadence and health.

Chicory Salad

Fancy something a little lighter? This starter uses Crozier blue cheese, pickled pear, walnuts and honey.

Grilled Saddle of Lamb

Nothing tastes better in the depths of winter than tender, juicy lamb, and this dish is a beauty, with chickpea mash, roast aubergine and a red wine jus.

Grilled Chicken Breast

From the Josper grill, this unique chicken dish comes with a cumin ballotine, puy lentils and a Parmesan polenta.

Pecan Torte

If ever there’s a time for a rich dessert, it’s now. This decadent torte comes with salted caramel and would be a perfect ode to Thanksgiving at the end of November.

Sticky Toffee Pudding

Perhaps the quintessential winter dessert, this sticky toffee pudding is the ultimate indulgence. This Balfes creation comes with almond ice cream, the perfect partner to a warm and treacly pudding.

The new menu is available now in Balfes. For more information, including menus, booking information and more, see the website.
