The River Lee gets ready for the Cork City Marathon

The team prepares for the marathon

The River Lee hotel has long supported the Cork City Marathon, with accommodation nearby perfect for runners and their families.

For many years, The River Lee has been a supporter of the Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon, and this year is no different. Over the June Bank Holiday weekend, the team at The River Lee will be on hand to tend to the runners, before, during and after.

From offering healthy, filling breakfasts before the race, to handing out snacks and water along the way, the team will be there to support runners (as well as celebrating with them at the finish line).

A few will also be joining in the race themselves! An amazing 22 people from the hotel will be taking part, at various levels.

This year, the marathon has switched from the Monday to the Sunday, so runners can enjoy a whole recovery day before getting back to work. It also means it’s easier to make a fun weekend out of the marathon, and check out a few of the spots you ran past earlier!

Commenting on their support Paula Cogan, Director of Sales and Marketing at The River Lee Hotel said “The River Lee has always been a supporter of great events and festivals taking place in Cork, and we recognise the Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon as one such event, a highlight of the summer calendar in the city. Just as the city comes to life during the marathon so too does the River Lee, with lots of special food, board and entertainment offers, we are excited to welcome participants and their fans through our doors. We wish our own staff the very best of luck with their training in the lead up to Irish Examiner Cork City Marathon Sunday Runday, and are excited to join the hundreds of supporters on Patrick Street to cheer our 22-strong team over the finish line.”

Paula herself has been known as a fantastic cheerleader during the day itself, handing out water and orange segments and cheering people on as they run past.

Unlike similar marathons, there are plenty of different events running throughout the day, if you’re not quite able for the full distance. You can run the Half Marathon, Team Relay, Inter-Services Championships and Youth Challenge. Registration is still open, and you can see more at corkcitymarathon.ie.
