The River Lee’s Winter Terrace Installation Will Raise Awareness of Light Pollution In Ireland
The River Lee in Cork is home to an immersive Autumn/Winter terrace, ‘To The Moon’ At The River Club, inspired by our fascination with the stars, space and the ancient inspiration of the moon on planet Earth.
Our luxury Cork hotel has partnered with Hendrick’s Lunar Gin and trailblazing Cork florists, Fox Flowers.
The terrace installation takes our guests back to the golden age of air travel, featuring a rich, jewel-toned colour palette, alongside vintage hot air balloons, model airplanes, antique stargazing tools, moon and star symbols, birdcages and exotic birds in flight. Fox Flowers have created a star-gazer’s dream, including installing a cloud of pampas grass and baby’s breath.
Take in the beauty of the Cork night sky from our gorgeous terrace while sipping Hendrick’s Lunar Gin, which has been distilled with 11 botanicals, including rose and cucumber.
To help protect our night skies from light pollution €1 from each cocktail sold on the ‘To The Moon’ at The River Club Terrace will go to Blackrock Castle Observatory and Dark Skies Cork.
Blackrock Castle Observatory is currently working with Dark Skies Europe to raise awareness of light pollution and its effect on nocturnal biodiversity and pollinators, bringing this worthwhile initiative to wider attention, as well as helping create a greater understanding of our awe-inspiring skies and the cosmos.
The cocktail menu features a list of irresistible and whimsical cocktails based on Hendrick’s Lunar Gin, all designed to reinforce the celestial theme of the Terrace — a ‘Cloud Nine’, a ‘Freefall’, a ‘Moon Mist’ and a ‘Birds of a Feather’.
To The Moon at The River Club runs until February 2022. Book your place
